PALE WEASEL

PALE WEASEL -

                 A pale coat is highly prominent of this species. The colouration above and on the sides is light brown.The underfur is deep brown at the base. The tale is generally same as the body colour. The under part is generally yellow or white with a clear mark line of separation from the brown of the sides. Sometimes brown spots are seen on the breast and abdomen region. The tail is moderately hairy. The length of tail is also half of the head and body. The fur is soft , short and thick  with few wool under neath. The head and body length is  generally 9 to 12" and tail is about 6".

           It is seen throughout the higher Himalay and also seen in Tibet, Sikkim  and Gilgit. Their mating takes place     in the month of February and kids are     born in May. They gave birth to     maximum 5 kids. It is now one of the more persecuted species due to over- exploitation for its prized fur. However M.altaica is represented in  India  by a single race, namely temon     Hodgsoni.
